Greeting Card - A Thing of the Past

Reliving the past - Memories

It was my birthday.
Birthday Wishes were pouring in from my family and friends in WhatsApp and Facebook. I received animated E-greeting cards in my phone -
“Happy Birthday” texts moving from left to right, Cake images of different shapes popping from in between, balloons flying high in the phone and crackers bursting in my mobile screen with no damage to the phone what so ever…
Wooow, How fascinating … Technology has gone beyond our imagination.
Everything is available with a click of our fingers. No more squeezing our brain, no more effort and time spent on purchasing attractive colourful cards and writing few words of wishes in different coloured pens in irregular fonts. No more spending money on materials to make original cards. No more... no more... It sounds so simple, right!

But I ask myself. How much satisfaction this gives me... Just to select some card online in an app or from a website and forward to the deserving person.

I remember, when I was in school, my sister and I would make greeting cards at home for every festival and function and post them to our cousins. All thanks to our mother, she encouraged us to do so...

We buy chart papers of different colours – White, pink and yellow. Spread them on the floor, along with all our stationery items. We fold and cut the chart to our desired length and start drawing pictures with HB pencil. The moment we lay our hands on the chart our imagination shows its work. We keep drawing, keep colouring, paste stickers here and there, draw borders, cut the chart along the borders to give shape, pen down our wishes in so many different font styles, sizes and colours.
Would have no idea what we are upto.
I am sure the card looked flawed, but still beautiful. It looked disorderly, but colourful.

We make many such cards and post them 10-15 days before the D-day. It was very exciting and overwhelming. We loved making these cards and admiring them.
As days, months and years passed by we were gradually letting go of this practice without our own knowledge.
During my college days, instead of making my own cards I started buying these cards from stationery shops with beautifully written content in it.
But now I don't do that either.

Today when I was out shopping, my eyes fell on the greeting cards hung from the stand of a stationery shop. The sight of these cards kindled my memories, and this post is the result of that.
Times are changing, world is changing, people are changing, thoughts and opinions are changing. We say “Change is permanent”.
But I believe few things are not be changed, but to be restored, to be practised and to be cherished.

Those little moments of happiness, excitement and joy of making the greeting cards are still fresh in my mind and I would like to relive those moments.
What would be the better time than "Ganesh Chaturthi"!
With the festival round the corner, I have made a greeting card of “Lord Ganesha”.

Wish you all have a wonderful divine celebration of the festival.

Italy tour - Rome, Florence, Venice - Experience and few tips

I recently went on a tour to Italy with my parents. We planned three main cities to visit – Rome, Florence and Venice. Enormous amount of time was spent in Google search to collect details on the tourist attractions and accommodation and the proximity of the tourist sites from the location of stay. The more the information in Google, the more the confusion in making decisions. After scratching our head for quite few days and after eliminating many possible options, we finally made a clear plan that was workable for us. But in this post, I am not going to talk about tourist attractions, as there is already so much material available on virtual platform to guide you. All thanks to the technology.  The purpose of this post is to share few of my observations and experience from this trip that might be helpful to the readers.  Rome ( 2 nights) Stay - Airbnb - B&B 128Roma - (Shared Apartment with common dining hall and kitchen) The flat is in the first...

The Wal-Mart Way - Book Review

THE WAL-MART WAY - DON SODERQUIST I had the opportunity to read the book"THE WAL-MART WAY" when I was doing my post graduate Program in Management. This is one of the popular books among management students as the author talks about few innovative methods and techniques adopted by Wal-Mart, American Multinational Retail Corporation, to reduce the operation costs of the company, thereby providing the customers the products with low prices. "Every Day, Low Prices" was the tagline for a long time until recently when it was changed to "Save Money, Live Better" . The motto has always been to sell products at low prices. To make this happen the company adopted new practices. The book widely talks about these methods and also throws light on the work culture and attitude towards the employees. About the Author The author of this book Don Soderquist was the Chief Operations Officer (COO) and Senior Vice Chairman of Wal-Mart. He has work...

Comic Strip Centre, Brussels - Tintin, Smurf and many more

FUNNY, FICTITIOUS COMPANIONS.......... 😃😄 Tom & Jerry , Mickey Mouse , Donald Duck , Popeye , Winnie the poo and Pink Panther are few of the very famous cartoon characters among kids. In fact, I would say even adults love to watch these cartoons. I believe comics and cartoon movies amuse and entertain all of us, irrespective of our age. I still like to read comics. Even more, I love to draw these cartoons with all unique and funny faces.... The creativity has no bounds. All these funny characters and their creators have left me spellbound.  Few of Tinkle's characters like Suppandi and Shikari Shambu are still my favourites.  Suppandi's stupidity due to ignorance, Shikari Shambu's cowardly acts that luckily ends up being courageous and many more of tinkle's comic strips have all been hilarious.  Tom & Jerry , very famous among kids need no mention. The running & catching, Jerry's acts of wittiness towards Tom, and in return Tom's act o...
